This blog, as the title implies, is designed to offer thoughts on literature, philosophy, writers and writing, people, places, current events, the meaning of life, famous and unknown thinkers, celebrated prose stylists, artists and their art, scholars, philosophers, fools, pariahs, introverts, wallflowers, neat freaks, fiber addicts, social wannabees and also-rans; it includes daily observations, news-driven commentaries, book reviews and "great-writer" recommendations.
Hi there, I found your post on Broch doing a search to see if Henry James knew of the modernist, not entirely implausible, as Henry had the literary reach of the costra nostra in his lifetime. Any thoughts?
Great Question. I wouldn't be at all surprised if James knew all about Broch. Probably even knew him personally. I'll have to do my homework on that. I'm glad you mentioned James because I'm a big fan of his. I originally intended The Ambassadors to be my big "summer read," but then switched to Musil's Man without Qualities. I've finally settled on The Melancholy of Resistance. So many books, so little time...
